This is the second installment of my interviews with individuals about what they feel makes them unique and what is their greatest accomplishment. In this interview I talked with my oldest daughter Elise. She is nine years old. I was very interested what a girl at nine felt made her unique. Elise told me she thought her love for art made her different. She loves to draw and look at art. When I queried why she thought this made her unique from others around her she simply said "Because not everyone likes art." I smiled, how simple it is to see yourself in an uncomplicated way at nine, unfettered by the worlds views of how you should be. Then when I moved the discussion toward her greatest accomplishment Elise didn't even have to take time to think about her answer. No sooner had I asked her what her greatest accomplishment was she said "getting baptized". I know that some people reading this would wonder why she would consider this an accomplishment. Elise was not baptized as a baby. In our church children have the option to choose baptism when they turn eight. I asked my eldest why this was an accomplishment she said because she chose to be baptized and not everyone does that. She is very happy that she decided to become a member of our church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. As her Mom I am also very proud of her choice as well. Elise is so loving and thoughtful of those around her, and while I consider her to have many things that make her unique and accomplished I am happy to know what she feels.
