My youngest daughter Adelle recently started speech therapy. I had no idea that sippy cups could be detrimental to a child's speech. To be honest I am amazed most of the time at what I do know. Anyway, I love sippy cups because they are convenient and make a mother's job of cleaning spill after spill much less. But, I recently learned these amazing cup inventions don't encourage development of certain muscles in the mouth that also pertain to speech. So right off the bat I hindered my children from speaking, some people would say that is not such a bad thing, hee hee. Actually, while sometimes all I want is for my kids to quiet down, when they do speak it is nice if it is intelligible. This brings me to what I said at first, now Adelle is in speech therapy. Her therapist gave her this adorable little straw to use when she has a drink to help build the weak muscles in her mouth. I have to admit I was a little jelous. I want someone to give me something cute to use to help my muscles get better. I have a hip problem that I have been seeing a physical therapist for and all I got was a very ugly shoe lift and now I can't wear any cute flip flops or open toe shoes without the risk of making my hip problem worse. IT'S NOT FAIR!!! I want a cute straw to make me better. No really, I am happy there are so many wonderful things to help my children and I get better, healthier and more productive. After all, just look at her cute straw and remember, when there is something we need to fix in life maybe just getting a pink monkey straw can make it better.
